School of Science and Engineering

The School of Science and Engineering (SSE) is one of the core schools at the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) aimed to equip the youth with technical knowledge and skills in order to constructively change the society.

The school comprises four departments: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Natural Resources Engineering and Management and Civil and Architectural Engineering. They are backed by a support unit. The SSE draws on local and international expertise, and the staff has extensive experience in academia and industry.

The SSE has put in place a comprehensive plan of summer internships for its students with industry and other entities. Through this requirement, the SSE makes sure that all its students are placed for summer internships.

The growth of civil engineering projects, the exploitation of natural resources and the development of computer, communications and IT in the Kurdistan Region are moving at a rapid pace, and the SSE is well placed to supply the trained professional manpower that is in demand.

The SSE is undertaking research and through the outreach to the community, providing services to support this development. Graduates achieve a proficiency in English and a level of academic competence that enables them to transition smoothly to postgraduate studies, locally and abroad.

A leader in Natural Resource Engineering and Management in the region and the country. Practical hands-on training, frequent field trips and exciting outdoor employment and internships. The curriculum of our programmes are designed to provide a strong foundation in the basic sciences, geosciences, basic engineering sciences and mathematics in addition to specialized higher rank instruction to meet different specialization and careers paths by students. In this initial stage, the curriculum of the department is designed in a way that three fields of interests could be followed with different upper division requirements. All three fields are identical (except for few courses) in the first two years as students study the basic science courses. In the third and fourth years those students pursuing fields in petroleum engineering, hydrology and mineral deposits (economic geology) would focus their study on their chosen fields. The graduates of each track of the department will gain a fundamental understanding of their chosen field and acquire the basic skills and experiences required to become an effective member of their profession. Laboratory work and summer field work is equally an essential part of the curriculum of the department. To achieve the vision and the mission of the university the department is proposing to administer three closely related disciplines in natural resources. The curriculum of the department leads the graduates of the department to BSc Petroleum Engineering, BSc in Hydrology (Water Resources Engineering) and BSc in Mineral Resources Engineering. The curriculum of the Natural Resources programme is designed to provide a strong foundation in the basic sciences, geosciences, basic engineering sciences and mathematics in addition to specialized upper level instruction to meet different specialization and careers paths by students. Civil and Architectural Engineering programmes at UKH first started in UKH in 2015 to address the ever growing needs of the people of Kurdistan for innovation in design and construction. We offer various programmes of study leading to Bachelor of Science (BSc), Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The first programme is Civil Engineering and upon completion of their four years of studies, graduates from the Civil Engineering Programme will become engineers who can pursue careers in the different fields related to their discipline. On the other hand, those who graduate from the five-year programme of Architectural Engineering and Sustainability will become Architects.

We provide a comprehensive curriculum that is rich and modern. It is designed to match the international requirements for a challenging, multidisciplinary education.
