UKH to Host First Ever World Scholar’s Cup for KRG Schools in December

The University of Kurdistan Hewlêr hosted the first ever World Scholar’s Cup in the Kurdistan Region on 18th and 19th of December, 2018.

The registration was open for Kurdistan Region’s schools to participate in the Erbil round and over 350 students and faculty participated. The event was held entirely in English.

The WSC is an international competition for school children aged 10 and above to practice their skills in debate, collaborative writing, individual writing and Scholar’s Bowl.

Some of the schools who had performed well in the December round may qualify to take part in the global rounds held outside of the country, and then may eventually further qualify to take part in the Tournament Of Champions hosted annually at Yale University in the United States.

Students and schools who were interested in the event  were required to form teams of three for the junior division, 10 to 14, or the senior division that includes students aged 14 and above.

Joseph Harr, the WSC representative who visited the Kurdistan Region in October to promote the event to Kurdistan's schools, said that he was glad that the December event gave the kids here the opportunity to practice their skills while enjoying learning.
