International women?s day at UKH

Every year the 8th March is designated as ?International Women?s Day? celebration.  It is a global occasion to increase awareness on gender parity and celebrate the social, economic, and cultural achievements of women.  As a learning institution we embrace this celebration and take part in creating awareness on women?s issues through organising activities that have tangible outcomes for women in Kurdistan.

The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mohammed Mochtar, encouraged the organising committee, which consisted of representatives of all departments, to develop a 5-day programme for this year?s International Women?s Day celebration.  As the theme for this year?s celebration was #PressforProgress, the committee incorporated this within each of the daily activities.  The range of activities that were provided for this special occasion included 5-days of workshop documentary screenings and panel discussions at American Corner Erbil (ACE), an art exhibition through the UKH Holistic Art Studio, a book reading session through ACE, followed by the grand gala event and open bazaar through UKHCF and Students? Union.  This week-long event was supported by University?s Students? Union Head of Women?s Affairs, the UKH Charity Foundation (UKHCF), the American Corner Erbil at UKH Library, the UKH Holistic Arts Studio and CRIS.

The successful outcome of this event would not have happened without the support of other UKH sections particularly, Engineering & Services Department, the Public Affairs Department and the UKHCF?s dedicated volunteers.

We thank also Rudaw, K24, Babylon FM and Yala group for their support and promotion of the event.
