On September 6th 2023, The Vice President of the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) Prof. Dr. Dana Mawlood received a delegation from KRG Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, comprised of Mr. Salman Kareem, Head of the ministry’s Geology Department, Ms. Sabeha Haji, Head of Engineering Department and Tara Azad, Head of Administration.
The meeting was held between UKH experts in Water and Environmental issues and the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources- General Director of Water Resources to discuss water crisis, water resources management in the Kurdistan region, and regional water strategies.
On the long term, the two sides agreed on concentrating on issues related to water management, water treatment and water quality as well as water policy in the Kurdistan Region.
Additionally, both parties agreed on uniting efforts to study problems and recommend solutions on the short term on water harvesting ponds, recharging groundwater and sewage water treatment to the Kurdistan Regional Government.
