Award Ceremony: UKH’s Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy to Khusraw Jaff

The University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) awarded prominent Kurdish author and architect Khusraw Jaff honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) in a grand ceremony on May 9th 2022.

A Peshmerga, politician, novelist, translator, poet, artist, Sufist, architect, sculptor, and necklace designer, Khusraw Jaff is one of the greatest artistic personalities in the country. UKH awarded him Doctor of Philosophy for his significant contributions to social sciences and society.

More than 500 people attended the ceremony which was held at UKH’s auditorium. In addition to UKH students and staff, Kurdish politicians, lawmakers, authors, academics, and KRG officials attended the event.

In the opening, UKH Senior Academics, led by UKH president Bill Rammell marched in to the stage followed by the honorary awardee Khusraw Jaff.

Bill Rammell opened the ceremony and delivered the opening remarks, welcoming guests and expressing his happiness that UKH bestows an honorary degree to Khusraw Jaff. “And our honoured guest has not been shy in applying his talents in so many fields as a Peshmerga, author, historian, artist, architect, designer, and politician. He represents the very best of Kurdistan” he said referring to Mr. Jaff.

Dr. Zana Ibrahim, acting dean of the School of Social Sciences at UKH read the Honorary Degree Citation in English and Kurdish languages.

Later, UKH President Bill Rammell awarded Khusraw Jaff the honorary degree, which was followed by the honorary awardee’s speech.

“I am grateful that UKH remembered me at such a hard time” Mr. Jaff was quoted in his remarks, in which he called for a wide-range reform in the sectors of literature, drama, music and sculpture in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
