On Sunday 6th October 2024, UKH Centre for Peacebuilding and Dialogue (CPD) renewed its existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Germany-based Forum ZFD .
The new agreement was signed in a meeting attended by UKH Vice President for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Christopher Chris Bridle, Dean of Research and External Engagement Dr. Bayar Mustafa and Raife Janke, Forum ZFD Country Director in Iraq.
CPD is a policy and research-oriented centre established at UKH in July 2022, standing as a hub for researchers, scholars, various community actors, and stakeholders to address pressing matters related to international, regional, and local peacebuilding issues and practices. While ZFD supports people involved in violent conflicts on the path to peace. ZFD was established in 1996 by peace and human rights groups – in reaction to the Balkan crisis.
The two parties will be implementing a joint capacity-building project and communal activities on the field of peacebuilding for UKH students and staff members.
The first training programme carried out jointly will kick off on October 15th, 2024, titled “Youth in Peacebuilding” which will be held in UKH for a duration of three months. The Training aims to build the capacities of university students in peacebuilding measures and to create a safe space for dialogue on the most pressing issues in Kurdistan. This initiative will culminate in recommendations developed during the Dialogue Day event in December 2024.
