The University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) in Iraq has recently become an Advance HE member institution.

UKH is supporting a group of 30 staff to apply for Advance HE Fellowship as part of its to strategy to enhance teaching and learning and to formally recognise its staff through international standards and benchmarking.

Keith Sharp, Acting President of UKH, said, “This is an important step in the University’s work to gain recognition for teaching excellence and to support and motivate our staff to deliver an outstanding student academic experience.

“Working with the Professional Standards Framework generates an approach to teaching which is about continuous improvement and ensuring that our teaching offer is the ‘best it can be’. In time, we will explore the opportunities of accrediting our CPD programmes and Advance HE membership gives us the framework and relationship to explore that longer-term capacity building exercise.”

Ian Hall, Advance HE Head of Membership (International), said, “We are delighted to welcome UKH as a member. They have a clear roadmap for their staff development and teaching provision and we are delighted to support that work. We look forward to receiving the first Fellowship applications.”

Founded in 2006, UKH has nine departments and teaches nearly 1,500 students in its 31 programmes. It has four research centres. The University is a key enabler for the Kurdistan Regional Government in developing the region through the provision of excellence in researching and teaching.
