The representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in the United States, Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman visited the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) on Monday April 3rd, 2023.
Ms. Bayan was greeted by UKH President Keith Sharp and UKH Dean of External Engagement and Research Dr. Bayar Mustafa. After a short meeting, Ms. Bayan headed to the academic building to deliver a lecture to our postgraduate students in Politics and International Relations titled “How has the US Perceived Iraq and KRI Politics Since 2017”.
In her lecture, Ms. Bayan highlighted the mission of the KRG representation office in Washington, their ambitions, challenges and how the office functions in the capital city of one of the most powerful countries in the world.
Ms. Bayan also gave an overview on how the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) is being perceived as a strategic US ally in the area, the strategic military cooperation and the KRG’s will for broadening the KRI-US relationship.
The KRG representative also covered areas such as International relations, diplomacy, and lobbying and how they function in reality, compared to theory.
The lecture was followed by a Q&A session in which students were greatly engaged. UKH School of Social Sciences invites national and international high-profile diplomats, politicians, journalists, researchers and observers to contribute to enrich the knowledge and expand the professional network of our students.
