The University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) signed a memorandum of understanding with Montanuniversität Leoben in Austria on 8 August 2023. This MOU, above all, is a milestone in the further internationalisation process of UKH and a big step forward for UKH petroleum engineering programme.
Montanuniversität Leoben is one of the oldest universities in the world, founded in 1840 and is well-known for its research in areas of mining, metallurgy and materials science. “2022 brought another top ranking for the University of Leoben in the world-famous “Shanghai Ranking“. In the “Global Ranking of Academic Subjects”, the University of Leoben with the Department of Metallurgy ranks 24th – in a European comparison, this means second place. Furthermore, the University of Leoben is only 3 ranks behind the University of Oxford and only 7 ranks behind the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)” states Montanuniversität Leoben on their official website.
The MOU states both universities intention to collaborate to further internationalisation of both institutions in research, development and teaching activities. It also includes enhancement of education process by facilitating mobitlity of academic and research staff and students, exchange of undergraduate and postgraduate students. The two parties are also planning launching joint study programmes in which UKH students of Petroleum Engineering programme have the chance of spending a year of their studies in Montanuniversität Leoben.
