The University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) is proud to announce the official launch of the WMS Discovery System, marking a significant step forward in enhancing access to academic resources and digital services for our university community and the broader Kurdistani public.
The launch event, celebrated today as UKH Library Go Live Day, marks the culmination of months of investment, planning, and implementation aimed at advancing teaching, learning, and research excellence across the institution.
WMS Discovery, a state-of-the-art international library platform, connects users to both local and global collections through a single, powerful search interface. This means that students, staff, researchers, and patrons now benefit from:
- Faster, smarter search capabilities
- Broader access to authoritative e-materials
- Improved service delivery and user experience
During the launch event, Lesley A. Gaj, Director of the UKH Library, provided an insightful overview of the WMS Discovery system and its transformative role in reshaping library access and services at UKH. The presentation was followed by a celebratory cake-cutting ceremony, where attendees came together to mark this important milestone in UKH’s journey toward digital excellence. The event concluded with a lively social session, fostering engagement and enthusiasm among staff, faculty, and invited guests.
Over the summer, the Discovery system will be rolled out to UKH students and staff, with full access and training materials prepared in time for the 2025–2026 academic year. Users will be able to:
- Log into personalized library accounts
- Save and manage searches
- Access reading lists
- Generate citations and references
This transformative development ensures that the UKH Library remains a central hub for academic and intellectual growth, nurturing lifelong learning and scholarly achievement.
