The University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) had the opportunity to participate in the COP29 activities between 16 to 22 November 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan. UKH representation in the global summit included each of Prof. Dr. Dana Mawlood, UKH Vice President (Administration) and the Director of UKH’s Centre for Environmental Studies (CES) and Ranjdar Kamaran, Student Affairs Director and member of CES.
During the summit in Baku, UKH climate action initiatives were showcased at different meetings, panel discussions and presentations, which included Green Education Panel discussion, presentations on water scarcity and climate change, participation in Cryosphere Pavillon panel discussion.
Our representatives’ engagement with other influential parties at COP29 marked UKH’s commitment to taking effective actions towards climate change and its implications. This was showcased in the discussions with the Iraqi Supreme Youth Council, Youth House and Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and FABA International
It is worth mentioning that UKH has adopted the Green Campus initiative in late 2023, a long-term sustainability initiative that comprises various climate action activities. Raising awareness, green education, taking actions against plastic pollution, as well as our recent campaign of using reusable water bottles and filtered water stations are all parts of UKH’s Green Campus initiative.
