The University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) is proud to announce the launch of the Baldar Scholarships Initiative, a landmark programme aimed at expanding educational opportunities across the Kurdistan Region. UKH is a strategic partner in this initiative, which will provide 114 scholarships for the 2026–2027 academic year to outstanding students pursuing master’s degrees across various disciplines.
It is worth mentioning that UKH Chancellor Idris Nechirvan Barzani is the principal donor of the initiative, generously supporting 40 out of the 114 scholarships through Vision Education.
The official launching ceremony took place on Thursday, 10 July 2025, in the presence of government officials, business leaders, diplomats, university representatives, and students.
UKH Interim president Dr. Zana Ibrahim delivered opening remarks in the ceremony and voiced his happiness to the start of this initiative. “Investing in our youth and funding their studies abroad is a long-term and winning investment” he said.
Ako Muhammed, General Manager of Rudaw Media Network also delivered remarks and thanked UKH and Vision Education for their partnership in this project.
The scholarships are supported by a wide range of businesses in the Kurdistan Region, reflecting a strong public-private commitment to nurturing talent and educating future leaders. The initiative is named in honour of Ibrahim Ameen Baldar, a pioneering Kurdish educator best known for producing the first Kurdish language alphabet textbook taught in elementary schools throughout the region.
The Baldar Scholarships Initiative represents a powerful collaboration between academia, the private sector, and civil society, and reaffirms UKH’s dedication to inclusive, world-class education.
