Haitham Maarouf, Ph.D.

Introduction

Haitham Maarouf is an Associate Professor in Digital Business and Computing in the UKH School of Management and Economics (UKH). An expert in the inter-disciplinary approach of learning and teaching (L&T), he has over 22 years of higher education experience of teaching, research and academic management. He delivered various computing modules of the Sunderland University (UK) and Cardiff Metropolitan University (UK) programmes in Lebanon. In addition to his academic degrees in computing and machine learning, he possesses numerous internationally recognised IT certifications. Haitham participated in many research projects in Europe, such as, Leadership in Higher Education Management (LHEM), where the aim of this project was to create a virtual network where university leaders, management, and executives from the EU and Arab countries can discuss, compare, and learn about new management tools, methods, and attitudes. He has participated in the ERASMUS project as a Visiting Professor at the Istanbul Şehir University, Turkey and the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. He was a Postdoctoral Researcher in Machine Learning at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

Research

Haitham is a research-active academic. His research areas of interests include Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Financial Technology (FinTech), Knowledge Representation, Biomedical Ontologies and Terminologies, and Machine Learning. So far, published a number of research papers related to applied artificial intelligence and machine learning. Recently, Haitham has published in the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems journal (Q1), a leading journal in the artificial intelligence domain. Moreover, he has invented a clinical model related to Ataxia disease and published in openEHR Clinical knowledge Manager, a highly renowned clinical model repository. Haitham also presented in a number of international conferences, such as LAAS International Science Conference, Higher Education International Conference, and so on.
