On June 19, 2025, the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH), through its Artificial Intelligence and Innovation Centre (AIIC), partnered with the Kurdish Academy to organise a symposium titled “AI and the Future of the Kurdish Language”. Held at the Kurdish Academy in Erbil, the event brought together academics, public officials, and technology experts to discuss the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence and the preservation of Kurdish language and culture.

The event was attended by Erbil Governor Mr. Omed Khoshnaw, UKH senior management and leading figures from the Kurdish Academy.

The symposium opened with remarks from Dr. Zana Ibrahim, who highlighted the importance of embracing emerging technologies for cultural preservation. “We need to find ways to secure the future of the Kurdish language amid the fast pace of technological advancements,” he said.

Mr. Hama Saed Hasan, President of the Kurdish Academy, reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to supporting this mission “The Kurdish Academy considers it a duty to make its expertise and resources available in maintaining the Kurdish language at its best in the digital age.”

In a keynote contribution, Dr. Tarik A. Rashid, Director of UKH’s AI Innovation Centre (AIIC), shed light on a groundbreaking project jointly developed by AIIC and the Kurdish Academy—an AI-based platform that will provide the public with innovative linguistic tools.

The symposium featured two key panel sessions, “Artificial Intelligence and the Future of the Kurdish Language” and a special panel designated for presentations on Kurdish Language AI project.

This collaboration marks a strategic step in aligning language development with technology, and UKH is proud to lead such initiatives at the regional and national levels.
