University of Kurdistan Hewlêr Marks Its 20th Anniversary

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – 27 September 2026 —The University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) marked the 20th anniversary of its establishment with a ceremony attended by the Founder of UKH, H.E. Nechirvan Barzani, the Chancellor of the University, Idris Nechirvan Barzani, the President of UKH, members of the governing board, diplomats, students, and alumni.

During the ceremony, the Founder of the University reflected on the vision behind the establishment of UKH, stating: “I believe that the best investment we can possibly make is in education and in our nation. And therefore, we established the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr”

The ceremony also highlighted UKH’s journey and key stages of development over the past two decades. Attendees were introduced to the University’s contribution to the development of the Kurdistan Region, as well as the role of its graduates in leading and managing institutions, serving their communities, and contributing to society through education and knowledge.

The University of Kurdistan Hewlêr opened its doors to students in 2006 as a public, non-profit, English-medium university. Over the past 20 years, UKH has prepared more than 3,700 graduates for professional careers and leadership roles in institutions at both national and international levels.

Today, more than 3,200 students are pursuing their education at UKH across four schools: the School of Social Sciences, School of Science and Engineering, School of Management and Economics, and School of Medicine.
