The University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Teshk Nouri Shawis as the new Dean of the School of Medicine (SOM).
Dr. Teshk Nouri Shawis was in the top 10 graduates of the class of 1984 of Salahaddin University Medical School.
Subsequently he graduated again as an MBChB from Leeds medical school in 1989. He has been through postgraduate medical training in numerous NHS hospitals throughout the United Kingdom.
He obtained MRCPUK in 1994 and FRCP London in 2004. His interest in medical education led him to complete a post graduate diploma in clinical medical education from the University of Essex in 2014.
He was also the Royal College of Physicians tutor from 2012-2018 as well as an examiner for MRCP PACES and a host since 2006 and member of MRCP question writing committee.

He has exceptional international experience of medical education and medical practice. He will bring drive, experience and strong leadership to the SOM, and will work with SOM staff to move the School forward and deliver excellent education, experience and opportunities for our medical students.”
Dr. Shawis is currently a consultant physician with a specialistion for the care of the elderly in Colchester since 1998 and the honorary senior clinical lecturer with Bart’s and London medical school as an undergraduate tutor for the 4th year medical students in sub speciality of the care of the elderly. He is also a certified appraiser, clinical and educational supervisor.
He is also is an author of more than 20 published clinical scientific papers in different medical journals.
Dr. Shawis will commence as SOM Dean in June.
