100%

In a historic milestone for the field of Energy Engineering in Kurdistan and Iraq, on July 1st, 2026, in a formal signing ceremony, Dr. Zana Ibrahim, President of the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH), and Dr. Peter Moser, Rector of the Technical University of Leoben (Montanuniversität Leoben) in Austria, signed an agreement for a dual degree programme in Energy Engineering starting from the 2026–2027 Academic Year whereby UKH students will be enrolled at both universities, and upon graduation, they will receive a BSc in Energy Resources Engineering with a Minor in Management at the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr, and a BSc in Geoenergy Engineering at Montanuniversität Leoben, Austria simultaneously.

This agreement provides a unique opportunity for students and next generations of engineers in Kurdistan and Iraq to receive a high-quality education in Energy Engineering which encompasses both conventional and renewable energy, from oil and gas to solar, wind, and hydropower, alongside sustainability, management and digital skills. This is achieved in part through the three-month paid internship for the students in Austria following their third year in Leoben.

The Technical University of Leoben is one of Europe’s most distinguished technical universities with over 180 years of excellence in the fields of energy and mining.
