University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) and Sulaimaniyah Directorate of Health (DoH) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday 30 September 2021. The purpose of this MoU is to officially record the desire of the two parties in promoting and furthering links between them.

The partnership is to develop collaborative activities in academic areas of mutual interests; exchange of faculties and researchers, as well as exchange of expertise between the DoH and UKH School of Medicine (SoM). DoH agreed to collaborate on receiving SoM students for the purpose of clinical training at Sulaimaniyah hospitals. The partnership also includes exchange of academic information and materials, in addition to jointly organized symposiums, seminars, and conferences.

Both UKH President Bill Rammell and DoH Deputy Director Muhammed Ali emphasized on exposing the medical students to the best educational and clinical training opportunities.

Founded in 2014, SoM is the first public independent medical School in Iraq. The school adapted a new integrated medical curriculum and implemented modern teaching and learning methodologies, including simulation-based learning in their most advance skills labs in the region.

DoH is a directorate that oversees and monitors all the public and private health care and hospitals in the Sulaimaniyah Governorate, under Kurdistan Regional Government Ministry of Health. It includes one of the best public hospitals in the country, Shar Teaching Hospital, which recently became a clinical training centre for the majority of undergraduate and postgraduate Board students in the region.
