UKH Hosts Head of EU Office in Erbil for Chatham House Discussion

On May 14, the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) welcomed Mr. Radu Butum, the head of the European Union (EU) Liaison Office in Erbil at the Austria Community Centre. Prof. Dana Mawlood, UKH’s Vice President (Administration) and the Director of the Austria Community Centre handed over a Letter of Acknowledgement from his excellency Dr. Andrea Nasi, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Iraq, for the EU’s support and dedication towards students’ education.

Mr. Butum commenced his Chatham House session on Diplomacy and Numbers focusing on the EU’s role of diplomacy in international relations. Students at UKH were engaged and able to ask questions to learn more about the EU’s state affairs on the international, societal and individual level.

Subsequently, his visit concluded with participating in UKH’s weekly debate session at the cafeteria engaging with students and illustrating his perspective about the debate topic. He affirmed and endorsed his continuous support towards UKH’s mission and academic excellence.

This was the second Chatham House session organised by the Austria Community Centre. UKH frequently hosts prominent diplomats and foreign mission representatives to conduct sessions on diplomacy in the realm of international relations.
