Overview

The rapid growth of Erbil urban area has raised many critical cases that may address societal, environmental, economic, and cultural questions. These questions may be summed as the sustainable built environment, the reaction to these questions can be on different scales. This PhD in SBE can be an opportunity that these questions can be addressed and the cases be researched in terms of the criteria of the Sustainable Built Environment.

This programme is designed to train MSc. holders to research and address the challenges of a rapidly urbanized Kurdistan region, by seeking innovative approaches towards a sustainable built environment.

The programme focuses on the constructive, cultural, and climatic qualities of buildings and their surroundings in a more sustainable manner, taking into consideration the limited resources, and following the scientific approach in research.

Admission Requirements

  • Candidates must have an average of not less than 60 and 70 in bachelor’s and master’s degrees respectively.
  • English Language Proficiency: Minimum English Language requirement is 58 in PTE – 6.5 in IELTS -79 in TOEFL or 120 in Duolingo.
  • An equalised transcript is required for students who have graduated from international institutions.
  • Entrance Exam: The entrance exam consists of an oral presentation of a research proposal with an interview.
  • All applicants are required to submit a valid English language proficiency test from the list above, including graduates of English-medium universities.
