UKH Medical Students OSCE Exams

Students of the School of Medicine (SOM) at the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) conducted Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) on 3rd, 4th and 6th of January 2022.

The SOM has a special focus on evidence-based training to the students in addition to the mainstream medical education to help students attain necessary skills needed in their future careers, and OSCE is a clinical practice that boosts students’ clinical skills. It usually comprises a circuit of short stations in which each candidate is examined on a one-to-one basis with one or two impartial examiner(s), on either real or simulated (actors or electronic patient simulators) patients.

As the name suggests, OSCE is designed to be objective in which all candidates are assessed using the same stations. The stations structured to have a very specific task. Instructions are carefully written to ensure that the candidate is given a very specific task to complete.

Candidates are assessed for each step on the mark scheme that they perform correctly, which therefore makes the assessment of clinical skills more objective.

Assessment also includes attitude, skills, approach, knowledge, patient safety as well as proper disposition.
