On Monday January 13th 2025, the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) hosted the closing ceremony of the Future Proof Training Programme, co-organised by UKH Centre for Environmental Studies and the Hasar Organisation. The programme was supported by each of UNICEF, the German Cooperation, KFW and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The ceremony kicked off by welcoming words from UKH president Prof. Dr. Keith Sharp, followed by the vice president Prof. Dr. Dana Mawlood, who also delivered special sessions during the trainings. Later, certificates of acknowledgement were distributed on all the participants of the trainings, before moving to announcing the winners of the projects.
The Future Proof training covered leadership skills as well as climate action related projects. The training, held in UKH in late 2024, focused on equipping the participating youth with tools and knowledge needed to develop climate change-focused projects.
At the end of the training, participants presented their projects to a committee of experts. The top three projects were announced in the ceremony and were granted Seed funding to help kick-start their implementation. This funding is designed to ensure that participants have the resources they need to transform their ideas into impactful, real-world projects.
The ceremony was concluded by a poster exhibition of all the participants and their projects in the gardens of UKH.
