Introduction
Dr. Iman Kamal Ahmed is the Head of English Language Department at the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr. Dr. Ahmed holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the Birkbeck, University of London, specializing in psychology of language learning. She brings a wealth of experience to the classroom, having taught English at various proficiency levels both locally and internationally. She teaches a diverse range of courses, including Introduction to Applied Linguistics/TESOL, ESL Teaching Methodologies & Classroom Management, Age-Appropriate Second Language Teaching, Second Language Acquisition, Academic Writing and Reading, Research Methods and Statistics, with a focus on integrating practical application with theoretical insight. Her research interests lie in psychology of language learning and classroom emotions. In addition, she supervises undergraduate and graduate research projects.

Research
Dr. Ahmed’s research focuses on the psychology of language learning, with a particular emphasis on the role of emotions in second language acquisition. Her current work explores foreign language classroom emotions, examining how emotional states influence language learning outcomes. She has co-authored several papers investigating key aspects of emotional experiences in both online and in-person learning environments and contributed to studies on the "flow state" in language acquisition, exploring how learners achieve optimal engagement and immersion during the learning process. She is also an active peer reviewer for leading academic journals, including the Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development.
