On Tuesday 27 May 2025, the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) had the honour of hosting the US Consul General in Erbil, Mr. Steven Bitner, who delivered an insightful lecture to our MA in Political Science and International Relations students.
His talk covered pressing topics including security, the economy, diplomacy, and politics in the Kurdistan Region. Mr. Bitner emphasized how US interests align with the aspirations of the people of the Kurdistan Region, particularly in bolstering Kurdistan’s economy and supporting Peshmerga forces in the fight against ISIS.
He highlighted the vital role of diplomacy in understanding the realities of Kurdistan and effectively communicating these to decision-makers in Washington, D.C.
A valuable session that bridges diplomacy and academia, offering students a unique glimpse into global politics and diplomacy.
