International Scratch Day

On May 13, 2018, International Scratch Day was held at the American Corner Erbil. A practical session with a workshop on coding system was held at the American Corner. Dr. Wrya gave a brief introduction about computing and coding language systems then, with his undergraduate and postgraduate students he demonstrated how to use 'Scratch', a visual programming language designed by MIT Media Labs to help children to understand and easily use programming concepts. This was followed by two practical sessions where some examples were programmed by the children, including the Robot Thymio - as an external device, to do some basic movements. The children were awarded certificates of participation followed by a chocolate cake tea in the university garden.
