English Language Skills Building: Reading Club - Round 2

The second session of the Reading Club was held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. The purpose of the Reading Club, an expansion of the DEAR sessions, is to discuss the components of literature, such as setting, plot, tone, characterization, and dialogue. Mr. Edward Bassett facilitated the discussions, and he focused on how the various components can be used by authors to elicit meaning.

At the first session in June, Mr. Bassett introduced the short story, “The Lady and the Dog” by Chekov, to the participants, and asked them to read it in time for the second session. Thus, on July 11, the participants arrived prepared to discuss the short story, and to also describe their reactions to the characters and to the characters’ actions.
