Drop Everything And Read Reading Series Workshops/ Poetry Reading - 1

What makes a piece of writing a ‘poem’? Is it merely a matter of structure, composition and technique? Or is a ‘poem’ a literary work which somehow touches and moves us, in profound, strange, and often, unexpected ways?

Over the two seminars, these are some of the questions we shall explore together. Involving practical workshop sessions, in which participants can put their own poetic talents to the test, the seminars will examine and discuss the different components, which constitute a poem, including: meter, rhyme, and form.

In this way, the seminars will offer guidelines regarding the reading of poetry, and hopefully, will therefore inspire us to see poetry in a new light.
