American Corners are dedicated information spaces hosted in schools, libraries, and other partner institutions worldwide. The American Corners are friendly, accessible spaces, open to public, that provide current and reliable information about the United States through bilingual book and magazine collections, play-ways, film and documentaries, poster exhibitions, and guides for research on the United States. At the same time, the corners organize events, presentations, workshops, and dialogues with U.S. experts in areas that include educational advising. It is also a meeting place for US alumni, host to conversation and study groups, and great place to hang out while away an hour or two!
American Corners in Iraq
Our partnerships in Iraq are in universities and public libraries throughout the country. They provide access to print, multimedia, and other English language materials.
There are seven American Corners in Iraq – in Baghdad, Erbil, Basrah, Sulaymaniyah, Najaf, Maysan, and Dohuk. The corners are staffed by bilingual Iraqi library personnel who will be available during regular library hours.
Our American Corner here in Erbil is based at the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr on the mezzanine floor of the library.
