Potential of Biogas Production from Food Waste in Erbil

Municipal solid waste (MSW), commonly known as trash or garbage, is a waste consisting of everyday items that are consumed and discarded. Lack of proper MSW management contributes to air, water and soil pollution leading eventually to public health and environmental issues. Food waste (FW) represents approximately 28% (weight basis). Anaerobic digestion of organic waste including FW not only is a platform for reducing nutrients run off but also generates biogas as a renewable energy source. Biogas can be further treated and utilized as a car fuel, electricity and heat.
