Nickolay Mladenov Visits UKH

On Wednesday January 18, 2023 Nickolay Mladenov, current member of the Governing Board at the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) and Director General of the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA) in the United Arab Emirates visited UKH. Mr. Mladenov was accompanied by UKH Governing Board Member Ms. Isabel Uribe and were warmly welcomed by UKH President Professor Keith Sharp and Vice President Prof. Dr. Dana Mawlood.

Both sides discussed joint future collaboration in furthering international relations and diplomacy and climate change fields in the university with the School of Social Sciences and other bodies in UKH.

During the visit, Mr. Mladenov held a roundtable discussion with some UKH students of the Department of Politics and International Relations where ta fruitful exchange took place.

In the roundtable discussion, students shared their political worldview and their hopes and aspirations for the future of Kurdistan and their role in its development. They also discussed challenges and opportunities facing youths and the general community in KRG and the politics of the region. Mr. Mladenov shared his valuable diplomatic and political experience in the Kurdistan Region and the world and elaborated on the rapid shifts in different in international politics in economic, social, religious, and technological dimensions.

Mr. Mladenov is an accomplished Bulgarian politician and diplomat with long years of service and influence in Europe, the Middle East and other parts of the World. In 2013, he was appointed by the United Nations Secretary General (UNSG) as Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission to Iraq (UNAMI) and Special Representative of UNSG to Iraq.

 He is a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defense in Bulgaria, former member of the European Parliament.
