A Seminar on Wastewater Treatment Plants

In a seminar, Dr Dara Ghasimi from the Department of Civil Engineering, explained the importance of sanitary wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and presented several demonstrated concepts of the state-of-the-art WWTPs.

Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are widely implemented to reduce harmful emissions to receiving water bodies considering certain effluent requirements, without sufficient attention on energy, said Dr Ghasim, adding that wastewater contains resources which can be recovered for secondary uses if treated properly. “This situation was changing in the recent years as both water and energy are critical elements,” he said.

He then outlined the importance of sanitary WWTP followed by presenting different demonstrated concepts of the state-of-the-art WWTPs considering three essential pillars: Resource factory, Energy factory and Water factory.
