The University of Kurdistan Hewler is pleased to welcome Dr Bahram Resul
to the UKH community as the Dean of School of Medical Sciences.
Dr Resul, educated both in Uppsala University (Sweden) and University of
Baghdad, is an outstanding academic and practitioner in the area of medicinal
chemistry, pharmacology and ophthalmology. He is the inventor of several
patents, including latanoprost (Xalatan) that is used for the treatment of
Glaucoma and approved by the US’s FDA in 1996. He is the recipient of several
major prizes, including the Swedish Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences for Outstanding
Contribution in Medicinal Chemistry in 2004, the Hungarian Academy of Science
for Outstanding Contribution in Medicinal Chemistry in 1998, and the
Williame-Upjohn US Prize in Recognition of Special Accomplishment in 1997.
He also founded AWAMEDICA Ltd, the major drug manufacturing company in
the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and played the role of CEO of the company from
2006 to 2018.
