weekly seminar was held on March 1st, 2018 which was presented by:
Abdullah H. Awdal, Hawkar Ali Abdulhaq and Wrya M. Ali Monnet in the department
of Natural Resources Engineering and Management at UKH. The seminar focused on
Augmented Reality Sandbox as a tool to teach topographic and elevation map with
a functional prototype.
Reality (AR) is the integration of digital information into the real-world
environment in real time. Augmented Reality Sandbox can be used as a powerful
tool to bridge the gap between two-dimensional representations and real three
dimensional landscapes. The sand is augmented in real-time with an elevation
colour map and topographic contour lines, using a 3D scanning camera,
visualization software, and a projector. The AR Sandbox model was first
developed by researchers at University of California Davis. The model has been
replicated at universities and museums around the world. At the UKH, they have
replicated the AR Sandbox model and it?s the first of its kind in the country.
