Current developments in Kirkuk seminar

The University of Kurdistan Hewl?r?s Centre for Regional and International Studies organized a seminar for Mr. Rebwar Talabani and Dr. Dindar Zebari regarding the latest developments in Kirkuk. The seminar highlighted the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), Iraqi military and police forces assertion in the Province of Kirkuk from October 16th, 2018 and onward. Dr. Dindar asserted that the KRG condemns humanitarian violations in Kurdistan areas outside the KRG. He shed light on reports by international human rights organizations regarding the dire humanitarian situation in Duz Khurmatu and Kirkuk regions.

Mr. Rebwar Talabani presented a list of unconstitutional actions taken by Mr. Haider Abadi?s government attempts of imposing federal authority in Kirkuk. He discussed the plans of Kirkuk provincial council to hold an ordinary session for the first time since the fall Kirkuk in Kurdistan Region. Furthermore, Talabani asserted that due to the insecurity of the city of Kirkuk, the provincial council would not convene in Kirkuk. He strongly condemned some Arab and Turkmen parties plot to dissolve the current Kurdish-controlled Kirkuk Provincial Council, which was strongly opposed by all political parties in the Kurdistan Region. The seminar ended with a question and answer session with the audience.
