Dr. Emel Tugdar, Chair of Department of PIR, has been
invited by University of Cambridge as a visiting scholar for Easter Term 2017
to conduct her second book project titled Politics of Gender in Iraqi
Kurdistan. She will be affiliated with the Center for Gender Studies at
University of Cambridge during the Easter Term. Dr. Emel?s project aims to fill
a gap in literature, examining politics of gender in Iraqi Kurdistan by delving
into the phenomena of resource curse of oil and political culture. Taking
advantage of being in the field, she attempts to understand the causal
mechanisms of internal dynamics in Iraqi Kurdistan underlying women?s
representation/participation in gender biased political economy. Another goal
of the project is to introduce the international community of scholars to the
gender dimension of Kurdish politics/political economy, which has been ignored
in the literature of Middle Eastern Studies.
Dr. Emel?s affiliation with this prestigious university is a
research partnership between University of Kurdistan Hewl?r and University of
Cambridge, which would benefit international ranking of UKH significantly.
University of Cambridge is ranked the 1st in U.K. and the 4th in the world
according to Times Higher Education 2017 rankings.
