Tim Brailsford

Introduction

Professor Tim Brailsford is the Dean of the School of Science and Engineering at UKH, starting in this role in November 2024.  He is a multidisciplinary computer scientist, interested in hypermedia, user experience, electronic publishing and educational technology.  Recently he has got interested in the application of artificial intelligence to these areas, and in Explainable AI (particularly endeavoring to understand how neural networks function).  He has previously worked in the University of Nottingham and spent six years in Malaysia seconded to the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, where he served as Head of the School of Computer Science.  Following his return to the UK he joined the University of the West of England, Bristol where he spent four years as Head of Department of Computer Science and Creative Technologies.  Tim started his academic career as a biologist but moved into computer science after being involved in a series of electronic publishing and educational technology projects in the 1990s.  He has won awards both for the technology and for his teaching.
