The 2nd Korean Festival 2018: The Friends of Korea

University of Kurdistan Hewlêr and the Centre for Korean Studies co-organized
the Second Korean Festival on Saturday, the 18th of December 2018 with at
least one thousand people attending the annual event.
The head of the Kurdish Foreign Relations Department Falah Mustafa, Erbil
Governor Nawzad Hadi, and Young Kyu Park, General Consul of the Republic of
Korea, among others, attended the event.
The day-long event included a talent show for the youths in the Kurdistan
Region to showcase their talents in music, arts, and popular dancing.
A Taekwondo team from Erbil also performed on the stage where they
showcased the Kurdish and Korean flags side by side, indicating the
friendship between the two nations.
Three judges, two Kurdish and one Korean, assessed the performance: Avin
Aso, from the popular Kurdish channel of NET TV, Ari Mamshae who is the
Director of the UKH Public Relations Department, and Sookie Hong, a UKH
professor and head of the Erbil-based Centre for Korean Studies.
The visitors had the chance to experience the Korean culture with some of
the volunteers wearing traditional clothes, face painting of the Kurdish and
Korean flags, Korean food and traditional and modern Korean music.
A section designed to give the visitors the chance to dance to the Korean
music attracted many of the youths throughout the day, making it one of the
most popular events on the day.
