UKH and CUE Sign Memorandum of Understanding

The University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) and the Catholic University in Erbil (CUE) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Wednesday November 11, 2022 in a ceremony held in CUE.

While UKH continues its broadening its external engagement, this agreement is signed with an objective to enhance relations between the two parties and develop academic and cultural interchange in the areas of education and any other fields of mutual interest.

UKH has recently partnered with the London School of Economics (LSE) Middle East Centre to cooperate in research, workshop and seminar organisations to discuss the state of art, youth and women in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The MOU today is another indication of UKH’s community engagement and partnership with academic institutions in the region.

UKH President Professor Keith Sharp who signed the MOU with his counterpart Dr. Nazar Shabila, CUE President, voiced his optimism and eagerness to work together with CUE and enrich the academic experience in the region. “We look forward to working together with CUE in the future and join our efforts for a better future for our students”.

According to the MOU, the two universities will be working together to exchange teachers, technical and academic staff. The exchange programme also includes students from both institutions.

CUE President Dr. Nazar Shabila stated that both institutions are opting to become leading educational institutions in the region and that this agreement is a good step forward.

UKH and CUE will cooperate to prepare and organise joint workshops, intercultural programmes, group studies and conferences. Medical education is also an important part of the agreement, where both institutions cooperate in exploration of sharing facilities, developing joint programmes and projects.

Professor Keith Sharp was accompanied by UKH Governing Board Member Dr. Nezar Ismet as well as Dr. Teshk Shawis, the Dean of the School of Medicine and Dr. Bayar Mustafa, Dean of External Engagement and Research.

From CUE, each of Dr. Iqbal Gorgis, CUE Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Mr. Petros Khammo, Dr. Dankha Joola, Executive Vice Chancellor for Administration and Mrs. Vida Hanna, Director of Public Affairs and Strategic Communications attended the ceremony.
