Passionate about teaching, Alan Collins joined UKH is 2017 for his first academic position. Previously he has worked in industry as a self employed consultant civil engineer in the Sultanate of Oman. His specialties were the asset management of earth embankment dams and seepage investigations and monitoring. He also became involved Renewable Energy initiative projects and energy management solutions for various firms in the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates. His contract to investigate the optimal pricing of a rebate for residential photovoltaic systems for the Authority of Electricity Regulation was the basis of his masters thesis. Prior to moving to the Middle East, he worked for a major electricity generator in New Zealand as one of two civil engineers responsible for the asset management of 9 dams that generated 10% of New Zealand's electricity. Alan Collins was named the regional Young Engineer of the Year in 2012 by the Institute of Professional Engineers for a project on river bank erosion protection.
